The weekend started off with the dramatic StepMom and ended with Cool Runnings, with no one else in between. But just to give a fresh start. If you haven’t got it, they are movie names.

I don’t remember whether I have mentioned it, and I am too lazy to search in my archives, but nevertheless, I do love Julia Roberts. Her smile and her beauty just mesmerizes me. I was not much aware of Susan Sarandon, though I had watched her in Shall We Dance. But the film and the characters had such a real shade, I wondered whom to praise. I am not that experienced in English films to comment on the script and photography and etc, but what I liked in most of these films, is the depth of characters. Some of them just make you think, while they shine under different colors, as if gem stones under the moonlight. It could be unpolished diamond or a just a smooth stone, and we never could understand. Stepmom, which portrays the emotions and fears  of a real and a step mother over the children they care about. It shows the two extreme mother personalities of love and affection, but both on the good side.

Cool Runnings reminded me of Chak De India, in a way. Long back, I had tweeted, about the presence of more black people in Bangalore owing to their studies. Other than in films, I had never seen them in real before. Long back, Indians were given racist remarks in outside countries. Imagine the amount of criticism they had to face in the land of whites. Cool Runnings is the struggle of the bobsled team from Jamaica trying to make it to the Olympics for the first time. It reminds us that a national spirit can do wonders.

And yes, I also watched the comedy thriller, or rather thriller with comedy, I love trouble and of course, it had Julia again in it! And ya, I did love the trouble too.. “White lies” indeed.

The recent power cuts in Bangalore have left me watch several unfinished movies, and that too foreign films. Most of the movies, have no sound at times, which gives more seriousness to the film. Expressions are clear and convey much more than the words. The actors seems too brilliant too. Lets hope I am lucky enough to finish them off during re-telecasts…

1. Had heard of tweet long before. But twitter I came to know just recently. The twittermania is spreading onto me. everywhere I am checking out whether people are twittering. There are other feeds like friendfeed n all, but I feel people likes to twitter more. There was the forums, technical and entertainment ones, and then new popular short aggravated social networking sites like orkut, facebook, myspace, hi5, linkedln, and many others, and then the weblogs or blogs from blogger and wordpress, and now the mini blogs or feeds!!! The new improvements in Internet world are remarkable. I guess the tagline of Nokia, “Connecting people” matches better with the world of Internet, if ever it needed an advertisement and a tagline. Now I have even tried out various twitter tools rebuild for firefox or browsers or in general as desktop apps. But everywhere they mention Adobe Air as system requirement. I checked it out and it seems an important part for executing any web application. Does that mean, like any other Adobe PS, Air has also been hitting various desktops and laptops these days? It seems there are many things to catch up for me in this net life.

2. Being at home is sometimes very boring, but it reminds me of old days. The times when I spent at home in Kerala. As mentioned, I am getting more and more used to the TV shows. Nowadays its hot masala shows like Koffee with Karan or Rakhi Sawant Showz or trailors and interviews and gossips from Zoom. Read the rest of this entry »

Lot many people I know are fans of Rock, Pop, Trance and other music. Also the Hollywood movies. They say its an awesome movie. Beautiful editing and storyline blah blah… I seldom watch English movies for one n only reason that, its hard for me to understand the dialogues!! But another thing I noticed is, all these people blame the Bollywood and regional films sometimes saying they are crap and boring and contains only masala and mushy stories… The Hollywood is well advanced I agree, but why do we forget that our people are also trying its best in Indian Film industry. The good films are termed as “art films” and are given bad remarks. They are directors and producers who earn a living through the Film industry. They do need money. Shouldn’t we the people encourage them to bring out more and more good films, instead of blaming them as show off films? Instead the films having a night club dance are being boosted for “unrevealed” reasons! Personally asking, I consider lot many films from the directors, Sanjay leela Bhansali, Nagesh Kukunoor, Madhur Bandharkar, Ashutosh Gawarikar, and few regional films. My wish-list of to-watch films includes the following:
Corporate, Hyderabad Blues, Guru, Traffic Signal, Kalyug, Woh lamhe, Life in a Metro, few Tamil films like Kanda naal mudhal, Unnale Unnale, along with the English romantic ones Music and lyrics, The notting hill, The Holiday, and the Spiderman 3 and Pursuit of happiness..

I have felt most good Indian Films portray feelings and reality. But isn’t there lot many romantic and mushy films in hollywood too??? I love them for the simple plain storyline. The entertainment films are given more importance by the families and for the youth, the violent action thrillers, amazing cinematography and direction are the main reasons for shifting to Hollywood. Maybe Hollywood is indeed good, but please don’t blame our Film Industry too… Its just a developing country!!! Give ‘em a break!!

On a side note, its comparatively easy to show action and thrillers, but very very hard to portray emotions and feelings and make people think of it!
