A surprise post!

This blog has become quite infrequent for some months. Inspired by Hari Shanker, I thought of taking up this risk of recording my own voice for the better or worst. Alas, this time its in Malayalam! I will try for hindi next time!

The song below, is the famous “Aaro Viral Meeti” (if at all, you did not realize) from the film “Pranayavarnangal” sung by the renowned K.S. Chitra. Read the rest of this entry »

Aftermath of the Oscars

with 5 comments

I thought it was going to be another Monday morning. I was just browsing through the various channels on TV to start with, and saw the 81st Annual Academy Awards function in Star Movies. It was the Oscars! And I sat there for the next 2 hours glued to it.

Smile Pinki got the award for the Best Documentary short film. I haven’t seen the documentary, but I am happy for her that she too was mentioned at the Oscars. How many are lucky like that?

A.R.Rahman and Rasul Pookutty did deserved the awards for Slumdog Millionaire. I won’t say “Jai ho” was the Best original song and all, but the original background score was brilliant and the sound mixing, editing,  or whatever term it is called, was brilliant. The story was simple and nothing much to talk about. But the photography, sound, music, film editing etc was brilliant. The speeches made by those Indians, made every Indian proud. Rasul indeed made history. I liked his speech more than Rahman’s, who was more professional, though he spoke Hindi, English and Tamil on the stage. It was indeed a drama to speak of the country and making it proud and all, but its indeed a priceless moment, which would rewrite history and would be boasted of much, in coming years. Film Review: Slumdog Millionaire

Amazing screenplay. Best background music. And a simple storyline. No wonder Slumdog Millionaire bagged 4 awards at the Golden Globe.

The film is based on the Indian book, Q&A. In short words, its just a love story, mixed with the life struggles which hints the answers to the lead character (Jamal Malik) to win the millionaire TV series. But the photography which tastes the slice of India, the screenplay, which fits perfect and makes us glued to the end, though we can anticipate the end and the freshness of the new actors, is what made me see through the film, before it got released in India. I had downloaded the music first, but other than great beats, I didn’t find it much interesting as a casual listener initially. The “Ring Ring Ringa” song reminds you of the famous “Choli ke peeche” track, and is pictured on the prostitution in Mumbai. But after you see the film, the song, “O Saya” keeps ringing in your mind, which enhanced the spirits of the lead characters. Like other A.R.Rahman’s songs, I guess the music catches on you, very slowly and gradually. Read the rest of this entry »

Mélange – Random Tidbits – II

without comments

Continued from the previous post.

7. Its been very long time, that I had written a very long post, owing to make it easy for the readers (if any). But today, I am going out of control. Maybe its the silence within and outside looming around. People ask me if I am so bored at home, why don’t I try for job. Or they keep asking about the married life. I guess, every married girl of my age who got recently married, would have got fed up completely with such unanswerable questions they are pestered with. There is so much uncertainty about some aspects in your life and some decisions of our life, that it takes time to hit the bottom of the pit of thoughts. There are many I know who have got recently married and I am sure, they are asked almost the same questions like how’s married life or even the “dreaded question”. The answers maybe different as lives are not the same everywhere, (or are they? I mean atleast certain aspects???), but the questions are pretty much the same. I am sure, this is something which we can’t avoid from society and friends as silence is not preferred to “Wassup” and “hi,  how are you” and “nothing much” and “going on” at any cost…. Those are some inevitable pool of words which binds long lost people around the world. So I guess we need to accept it and acknowledge the fact that we cannot get away from them. So no more cribbing on that part I suppose…

Memoirs of rain…

with 8 comments

Finally it rained here. From past two days, the climate was cloudy here in Chennai. The drizzling rain and the cloudy atmosphere made Chennai beautiful, I guess it makes every city beautiful. The fresh water drops on leaves, the smell of the sand, the chilling wind, the watery road, with small small ponds, with the birds resting on branches shivering after the rain… And to sip hot coffee standing in balcony, with the “Suprabhatam” song in background in the morning, presents you with special freshness and warmth of a new dawn. Rain has always been integral part of my life, it has given me lot many memories and I am sure, it sends to many, along with me, an unknown shiver to the spine and leaves us in a blank expression to think of life.

There was a time, when in this rain, we used to go to schools in June with raincoats and umbrella, and with the worry of drenching the books and our school bag. And then there was the November rain, and the cyclone which unleashed restricting many of them to their homes. Be it June or November, it was a surprise to see the rain in Chennai always. Reminds me of the times when I used to stay in the Kelambakkam Ashram, spending time with friends singing and making noise, with chitchat, watching the boys playing football in the water pool in the rain. So many people under one roof. And there was another time, where I stayed at home, watching from the door, the rain splashing in front of the steps, going in dad’s bike with head down, to school, to meet friends rather than books n teachers, the roaming around in school during lunch time in the rain, with the fear of socks getting wet… And then there is another time, in which we slept cudddled in the afternoons, after lunch, while rain kept making sounds as if singing lullaby and wind blowing as fan… hmmm…

Gone are those days I guess… And with the time, the friends too… So much changes now. Lot many friends spread across the world, some whom we dont contact, though are nearby, books and bag changed to shoes and hair makeup, school and playground changed to companies, with no time even to pick umbrella. People are running fast in life, as individuals. The friendship bonds are now like threads, so thin, so worn out, connecting each other, but which can fade out with one strong wind and which will hang on to another, leaving memories behind…

Music Lyrics – English

with 2 comments

Music has been always an integral part of my life. I still wonder how I forgot to blog about it till now. Before landing in Chennai, I used to listen mostly, semi-classical, old hindi songs, malayalam or even few tamil songs. English was a total no-no except for the Backstreet Boys, cos I could never understand the words! (:) even the BSB i did not understand that time..) But now, my new passion is listening and experimenting with English famous music. To be frank, I still cannot distinguish between rock, pop, electronica, blues and blah blah.. I know few band names and some songs, which I am loving more n more every time I hear it again. The most captivating is the lyrics in these albums. Simple words describe lot meanings in them… aint it???
For now, I m just listing down few English ones…Â There are lot Hindi ones too with good lyrics.. Hard for me to find in office where all sites are blocked.. So u’ve to wait for more…

MLTR: reality love songs :P
More than a friend
You took my heart away

DHT: very slow and soft ones
Someone
Listen to your heart

BSB: my favourite one…
Show me the meaning

White Town: hmmm….
Your Woman

Linking Park : The ultimate reality!!
In the end
